Our Books

Pilotbooks New Zealand New Zealand publish a full series of text books specifically written for the New Zealand PPL, CPL, and Instrument Rating examinations. Each manual has been prepared with the student in mind - easy to read, comprehensive, and fully supported with diagrams. Our manuals are ideal for home study. Every chapter finishes with a chapter review and each manual contains at least one full sample ASL-style examination. Many of our customers report that they had no trouble obtaining good pass marks "first time up" in the examinations after using our manuals as their sole reference. Thus, you don't need to spend hundreds of extra dollars on tuition if you use our books.

Students for the PPL (Aeroplane) will require Vols 1 -5 (the PPL Kit) and, for the Human Factors paper we recommend Aviation Medicine and other Human Factors by Ross Ewing.

Students for the PPL (Helicopter) will require the above books plus, in addition, Principles of Helicopter Flight by Walter Wagtendonk.

Students for the CPL (Aeroplane) will require Vols 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (the CPL Kit) and a suitable reference for the Human Factors examination. (The ASL website www.aviation.co.nz provides a list of recommended references.) For Helicopter students, Principles of Helicopter Flight replaces Vol 7 in the CPL Kit.

For those studying for the Instrument Rating, both Vols 9 and 10 (the Instrument Rating Kit) will be required.

Aviation Medicine and other Human Factors for Pilots

by Dr Ross Ewing

Vol 6: Meteorology for Professional Pilots

The Commercial Pilot Series - Volume 6, Meteorology for Professional Pilots

Volume 6 is a very substantial reference manual for studies towards the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). It covers all the requirements laid down in the syllabuses for the two licences and does so in a manner that is easy to read and understand.

Vol 7: Principles of Flight and Performance

The Commercial Pilot Series - Volume 7 Principles of Flight and Performance

This reference manual deals with aerodynamic principles and aircraft performance associated with fixed-wing aircraft (Aeroplanes). The greater part of the book is devoted to studies towards the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) but Chapter 16 dealing with High Speed Flight is suitable reading for persons working towards the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).

Principles of Helicopter Flight

Principles of Helicopter Flight was first published in 1991 and marketed in New Zealand and Australia. It was successful from the very beginning, so much so that in 1996 interests were expressed by Aviation Supplies & Academics (ASA) in the USA who soon became the publisher of the book.

Currently it is used worldwide by a number of Civil Aviation Authorities as a major study reference for the helicopter examinations and large numbers of students for the PPL and CPL licences internationally use the book to prepare for the examination sittings.
